Memphis, Tenn. (Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021) – Prospero Health, a physician-led home-based medical care company, announced today from its new downtown Memphis location that it will create 530 jobs in Shelby County over the next five years, an expansion of its 2019 commitment of adding 249 jobs over five years. Michael Scarbrough, Prospero’s co-Founder, President, and Chief Operating Officer, made the announcement in conjunction with the Downtown Memphis Commission, the Greater Memphis Chamber, the City of Memphis, Shelby County and the State of Tennessee.

Prospero will relocate its growing operational headquarters in early 2022 to 50 South B.B. King Boulevard, where it will occupy 80,000 square feet across four floors. Prospero has been a tenant at 40 South Main Street in downtown Memphis since September 2019, where it currently utilizes 28,000 square feet over two floors. In just over two years, Prospero has realized 70% of its original pledge to create 249 jobs over five years.

Prospero launched its home-based medical care services in January 2020, serving 1,700 patients facing serious illness in three Northeast states. Prospero’s clinical care teams now serve over 17,000 patients in 26 states. Prospero’s presence in Memphis includes include a Care Support Center, as well as significant back-office operations that support teams of physicians, nurses, and social workers across those 26 markets.

“More than doubling our original commitment to create jobs signals the confidence we have in the talent in Memphis and in Shelby County,” Scarbrough said. “We are fortunate to be relocating to 50 South B.B. King Boulevard and we know such an attractive space and location will help bolster our expansion.

“Filling a gap in healthcare across the United States by providing medical care and support in the home for patients and their families is the essence of what Prospero does, and we know that mission resonates with so many people who face the same challenges. Prospero has expanded so rapidly because our care model works, and we are grateful to have our model supported by the wonderful resources available to us in and around Memphis.”

One of those resources is the University of Memphis Research Foundation Research Park, where Prospero had an office in its early days and remains a citizen. This relationship affords Prospero access to research and researchers at the University of Memphis, as well as the opportunity for the U of M student population to develop careers and internships with Prospero.
