Gov. lee issues safer at home order for state

3:08 pm CST - Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has issued a statewide “Safer at Home” executive order, urging people to stay home and stay apart, as well as, ordering the closure of businesses that cannot safely operate. Read more >>

Memphis Mayor limits access to public parks

3:00 pm CST - Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland today announced that the city will limit access to the city's 100+ parks in an effort to further enforce social distancing guidance through the Safer at Home order aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19. Read more >>

Number of confirmed covid-19 cases rises to 379 in shelby county

10:00 am CST - There are 379 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Shelby County, and that number includes one death. There are a total of 1,537 confirmed cases in Tennessee. Read more >>

Shelby County Health Dept Releases new guidance on masks

8:00 am CST - Surgical masks are proven to reduce the transmission of infection. Masks serve two functions. First not transmitting infection to others and, second, not becoming infected with an infection. In general, masks should be used in public by those who are ill and caregivers of persons with a respiratory illness.

During a pandemic with sustained community transmission, masks should also be worn by individuals who are elderly, have multiple medical problems or have a weak immune system. At present there is no clear strong evidence for the general public to wear a mask, however, given widespread transmission of COVID-19, the general public may consider using a mask (when available) or a facial covering.

All individuals should practice hand hygiene and maintain a distance of six feet to reduce the risk of infection. Masks may serve as additional protection when combined with other preventive measures. Read more >>
